Albay, Bicol: Eat Pray Love Sundays

Merry Christmas everyone! As promised, we are debuting today the series Eat Pray Love Sundays. First destination is in Daraga, Albay. Have a nourishing holiday!

Eat: Bicol Express

Eat. Bicol Express.
Three distinct ingredients make up this tasty dish--bagoong (shrimp paste), gata (coconut milk), and pork. Of course, what's a Bicolano dish without a generous serving of chilies?

Pray: Cagsawa Ruins
Pray. Cagsawa Ruins
After the eruption of Mayon Volcano in 1814, much of this baroque church was destroyed, with only the belfry left standing for travelers to appreciate.

Love: Sculptures
Love: Finished Product
Love. Sculptured Souvenirs.

Filipino ingenuity is evidenced by their craft. By the road on the way to the ruins, a local sculptor uses his skills to create mini-versions of the volcano and the ruins as souvenirs. Stones used are taken from Mayon Volcano.

Eat Pray Love Sundays is a series I'm doing, highlighting one destination on how it nourishes travelers and locals alike.
"Eat" features a location's food; how it nourishes the physical body.
"Pray" pertains to anything about worship or nourishing one's spirit.
'Love" is such a broad topic that it covers the rest--people, nature, culture. Those that nourish the soul.

Next Sunday, I'll be putting Sri Lanka on the spotlight!
